Black Vulture 2001

One of the largest known colonies of the Black Vulture (Aegypius monachus) species is in Kızılcahamam district of Ankara province, Turkey.

Within the scope of the project carried out between December 2000 and August 2002 in Ankara Province’s Kızılcahamam District Soğuksu National Park, it was aimed to determine the factors threatening the black vulture colony, to eliminate those factors and to conserve colony’s population.

In the project, efforts were made to regulate forestry activities in a way that would not adversely affect the reproduction of the black vulture and to increase the awareness of the local people about the species. Project activities were organized within this framework.

The project was supported by the United Nations GEF Small Grants Program (UNDP GEF/SGP).

You can find the booklet prepared for the project here.
