Determining the Ecology and Situation of Reed Cat, whose Population is declining in Turkey and Around the World, and Identifying the Threats against It

From past to present, a significant part of the wetlands in Anatolia have been dried due to both the fight against malaria and Agriculture land development. The remaining wetlands are also shrinking because of the increased droughts in recent years.
While the Reed Cat, which could be considered common in Anatolia in the past, nowadays lives in close proximity to agricultural areas around certain wetlands and river beds, the individual Reed Cats face other dangers, particularly traffic accidents.
The project aims to reveal the situation and biology of the Reed Cats, on which there’s little scientific research and data, whose population is gradually decreasing in Turkey and the World, before the remaining population comes to the point of extinction. It aims to identify the factors causing the extinction of the species and to offer local measures according to the data obtained.
