Bird Migration and Flight Safety in Turkey (1998-1999)

Turkey is one of the countries where migratory birds heavily utilize in spring and autumn migrations and where there is heavy bird traffic due to its geographical location.

Bird Migration and Flight Safety Project in Turkey was carried out between January 1998 and June 1999. The project aimed to detect bird movements in the Marmara Region, Salt Lake and its vicinity, Burdur Lake, Göksu, Seyhan and Ceyhan Deltas and also to reveal the risks posed by these birds in terms of flight safety. Within the scope of the project, bird-aircraft collision risk areas and risk levels were determined in the project areas and necessary measures to reduce the risk of bird-aircraft collisions were discussed.
